Eventually finished up Friday morning and sent it to the person who requested it. I'm only getting it posted now because I have spent a good portion of the weekend playing Lego Star Wars as reward for finishing up.

Still here

Looks like I have neglected my blogging duties again. I felt like a break from writing. 2008 has been a crazy busy year already. Is everyone enjoying it? Summer has been pretty good. This week just past it was a little cooler than it has been. A nice break to be honest.

I had the last couple of weeks off work. Since I worked through Christmas, it was nice to get a break later on. Felt good to get some things done around the place.

What to report on? I have some new stickers due soon. They should be here in about 2 weeks time. New design and all. Check it out.



I put some art up around town. These were quite a process to make, but were also incredibly fun. Hopefully some people around Auckland saw them. When I have some more time at some stage I hope to make some more. It's an incredibly arduous task though. I had to have patience. The worst of course is, getting it right on every colour and then messing it up on the last colour (black). It's enough to make you want to throw in the towel. The one in this photo has now been painted over. That is whats cool about putting art like this up though. When you put it out there, you're open to criticism. People will have their opinion, because its their space too. Like it or not, it won't last too long. If the clean up crews don't get to it, the elements will.


This week I worked on a CD cover for my friend Adam's band. Yes, the same Adam who I'm using as the basis for ActionMan Adam. They're a punk/hardcore band based in Calgary, AB, Canada. If you're curious, check out their stuff at:

To save them costs, I made the CD cover grayscale. You'd be amazed how much a 4 colour process job will cost over one colour. The finished result.

It's been too long

2007 is quickly rolling to an end. I haven't posted in a while. Lazy bugger? No not quite. I've had the same productivity as always. In fact I had a couple of deadlines to meet which prevented me to getting around to posting here. I have a few more art ideas up my sleeve that I want to bust out. Time is always my enemy. I'm loving experimentation though. Trying different things to create new results (for me) has been exciting.

Below is a commission piece I did for www.mrvintage.co.nz . They wanted something to stick up around the place, to help push through their awareness before Christmas was upon us. I started out with a fairly basic brief. Thinking black and white might be the way to roll to make the flyer cheaper, but they wanted colour to give it pop. Colouring is still something I play with, as opposed to confidently do. I enjoy it, but I guess I'm not technically accurate in terms of colouring with consideration to light source and all that. When I throw colour down, I just want it to look fun and bright, and hopefully work not only as a drawing, but as an advertisement.

Finally. This is a stencil piece I was playing with to show a friend of mine. I'll send him the result after Christmas. We're looking at collaborating together. This was not a perfect result. It gives you the general idea of where I was going though. Unfortunately the photo does not do it justice. I shot it at night time in poor lighting. The colours are bright neon. If you can imagine.

Belated Birthday and Sunny Weather!

First of all. Yesterday my friend Nick turned 28. So I'm gonna shout out birthday wishes to him. He probably never looks at this blog. Still, nice to say so. Nick is actually away for a little while to spend some time in the states. Lucky bugger.

It's been some interesting weather patterns here in Auckland of late. This week has been almost an exact copy of the week before. Started out with a thunder storm on Monday. Followed by rain Tues, Wed. Fining up a bit Thurs, and finally quite nice Fri, Sat.

Not that I'm complaining mind you. I definitely prefer the crap weather out of the way during the working week, so I can enjoy the weekend free of ugliness. Making the most of the good weather over the last two days I thought it would be a good idea to head out for a walk. Get some exercise, and take in some sights and sounds.

What is up with telemarketers? I know they have a job to do. Man, I have had a few of late. This dude just called me from Melbourne trying to offer me some sort of holiday package. Heh. Interrupted the train of thought and everything.

Check out the picture above. I found that stencil on Symonds Street in Auckland City. It's Iron Man! Nice. That's a classy stencil for sure. Huge props to the person that put that out there.

Starting out with My first Adam stencil. I really had just a rough idea of what I was doing. To get it underway. I drew the picture like I would normally. I then traced it onto tracing paper, blocking it up a bit more. From the tracing paper, I transfered it back onto some cheap copier paper, and filled in my blocked outlines with a sharpie marker.

Once that was complete I then used a spray adhesive to mount it onto a poster board and started cutting. Cutting the shape took a long time. I used that small xacto knife you can see there.

Finally after cutting it all. I was able to continue on and play around with the paint.

This is one, where i laid down my background colours, and then proceeded to only spray the head on top, like a wallpaper type of image.

Laying some different colour combos down. I'm starting to learn about what i can do with the stencil, what works, what doesn't. It took a few pieces to really find more groove.

If you'd like something similar. Let me know. We can work something out, for say 5 bucks? including postage. A3 size.

Adam Stencil

I have never ever made a stencil before. I went about it by doing a regular drawing of ActionMan Adam. Then I beefed up the lines, and spotted my blacks (the area i would be cutting) with a sharpie marker. Afterwards I used a spray adhesive to mount it to poster board, and then got the xacto onto it.

My hand was crippled afterwards.

This was just a quick spray to see if the stencil worked. I did it in evening under a street light...so it wasn't flat against the piece of paper i laid down. Hence why its messy.

It's ok for a first attempt at making a stencil ever right?
